The new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been popular talk among those in the VET industry. We have had numerous enquiries through our business division RTO Leadership Institute RTO ID 40682 from people looking to not only complete the new qualification, but mostly what their options are to upgrade from TAE40110 to TAE40116.
Context overview: To meet the new ASQA requirements for trainers and assessors, effective March 2019 trainers and assessors need to make sure they either:
Hold the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment OR
Hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and the two units:
- TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and
- TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools (or their equivalents)

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the next step if you want to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to work in an RTO, TAFE or enterprise as a:
- Trainer and/or assessor
- Enterprise trainer and/or enterprise assessor
- Training advisor or training needs analyst
- Vocational education teacher.
If this is already you, here are two options available for you to upgrade from TAE40110 to TAE40116 with RTO Leadership Institute RTO ID 40682
OPTION 1 – Trainers/Asserssors who have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, including TAELLN411 and TAESS502
This option is suitable if:
You already have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment including the two units TAELLN411 Address Adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and you are seeking to upgrade to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
How?
Upgrade to the new qualification by completing an RPL process.
Provide copies of your statements of attainments and qualifications for us to Credit equivalent units.
You will then need to complete an RPL process for the following two units:
- TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes
- TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation.
(These units are not equivalent between TAE40110 and TAE40116)
Next intake: You can enrol at any time
OPTION 2 – Trainers/Assessors who have the TAE40110 but do NOT have one or both of the following units TAELLN411 and/or TAESS502.
This option is suitable if:
You already have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment but do NOT have one or both of the units TAELLN411 Address Adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and/or TAEASS502 Design and develop Assessment Tools and you want to upgrade to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
How?
Upgrade to the new qualification by completing both units online or in class.
Online training:
- TAEASS502 – Attend 3 x 1.5 hour online webinars with homework and assessments in between. Attend every second week on Monday nights at 6pm (AEDT)
- TAELLN411 – Attend 3 x 1.5 hour online webinars with homework and assessments in between. Attend every second week on Wednesday nights at 7.30pm (AEDT).
FACE-TO-FACE training:
Attend full day workshops during April. You will also get access to our online learning portal to access content, resources and submit assessments.
- TAEASS502 – Attend two full day workshops
- TAELLN411 – Attend one full day workshop
UPGRADE TO TAE40116
To upgrade to the TAE40116 you will also need to complete the RPL process outlined above (in Option 1).
