How to create industry recognised learning resources

Our new training and assessment resources for CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations is now available! We wanted to share our developmental journey and walk you through our process. Starting with guidance from the LRD, to collaborating with industry experts, then creating a COVID-19 version, and finally being deemed fit for purpose by the LRD. We now have newly designed resources available for our clients!

Writing training and assessment resources for the Certificate II in Security Operations was not something we took on lightly. It is an area that is highly regulated and an industry where most RTOs have used the same resource provider for many years. Therefore, getting the industry to change to something new was not going to be easy. It was a qualification we had considered writing for some years but for various reasons had shied away from. However, with more and more clients expressing their interest in something new from us and asking us to solve some of the challenges they were facing with their current resources, we decided to take on the challenge.

To get started in our research process, we first consulted with the Licensing Regulation Division of the Victoria Police. We needed to find out how we could have our resources approved and also to find out any up and coming changes in policies, procedures and techniques that we could reflect in our materials.

Next, we advertised for and engaged industry experts who would work with our writers throughout the writing and development process. Our industry experts worked extensively with our writers throughout the writing process. They did this by consulting with our writers and then reviewing drafts of materials. They made sure our marking guides, learner guides and questions were all technically correct for today’s expectations.

Just as we were nearing completion of our assessment tools and getting ready to release them, Australia went into lockdown for COVID-19. Our first client was going to audit with our Certificate II in Security Operations assessment tools. This meant we now had to adapt all our assessment tools to meet a COVID-19 assessment environment. As a result, a second version of our assessment tools needed to be developed to suit a model delivered under a lock-down environment. We adapted all our role play instructions to be delivered under safe social distancing guidelines.

Our Certificate II in Security Operations resources are now complete, and we are excited to announce the resources have been deemed fit for purpose by the Licensing Regulation Division of the Victoria Police.

We will be modifying the resources for other states in the coming weeks.
