The Australian Industry Group will head a project designed to test a new model of apprenticeships which focuses on competency and progression rather than time based arrangements.

10 RTOs will participate in the trials which will involve 3000 apprentices studying in 6 different states.

The new model will focus on industry based outcomes for apprentices and mimicking real life work situations by asking employers to verify the competency of their apprentices.

Validation will be conducted by National Skills Standards Council.
